Usually, the first time you connect the N90Q to your computer with the USB cable, and turn the headphone ON, it will cause a message to open on your computer, informing you that this new device has been connected, and a software package is being imported.
Next time, you may get a warning that your USB device is not recognized by the computer, but that does not mean that the headphone will not work, it just means that you must activate it in the audio control systems.
Locate the speaker symbol, which is usually shown at the extreme right in your computer taskbar along the bottom of the screen.
Right-click on the speaker symbol.
A menu opens, and you must highlight and click on Playback Devices.
Now a small window opens, showing the Playback tab, with all available speaker option.
One of the options should read something like this: " Speakers. AKG N90 headphones - Firmware version A2.12. Ready."- Highlight this option, and then click the "Set Default" button that is now available in the window. Audio should immediately be sent to the N90 headphones as a digital signal, which is then converted and amplified inside the headphones.
- Now you can enjoy world-class music listening.

Please note that two types of ear tips are included with AKG N5005. The black ones are normal silicone tips, and they are fine for many users. The Milky-white ones are from the company SpinFit. They have a special middle section that permits the tip to swivel in all directions, making them able to adapt to various insertion angles. Please try both. For some, one is better, for some, the other one is better. You make the decision. In normal use, the tip that makes the best seal with your ear canal is the best choice, since bass reproduction is very dependent on this seal. However, some users may find that they prefer a slightly less tight seal. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

1. Disconnect/unplug the product from the network cable. If dealing with a smartphone, forget the wi-fi on the phone. 2. Shut the router completely OFF. (do not reboot, you must turn it completely off) 3. Boot the router up and let it complete it's connection with everything, usually a few minutes. 4. Shut the router completely OFF, again. This is REALLY important. Before turning it off a second time, the router still has the product in it and is looking to connect to it. Shutting it off a second time allows the router to go through a complete power cycle without ever seeing the product, so it will remove it from its system. 5. Boot the router up, again, and let it complete it's connection with everything. 6. Now plug-in/turn on the product. The router should find the product and all should work. 7. If dealing with a smartphone, search for the wi-fi and reconnect to it. All should work after this. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

There is no feedback informing you which setting you have selected. You must simply switch between them, and decide which one you like best. Usually,it is easiest to hear when the Surround mode is active, and once you have found that mode, you will know that the next two selections will be Standard and Studio. Here is an explanation of the three AKG N90Q Listening Modes: Three different spatial listening modes are provided. Each mode is characterized by a different spatial perception of the apparent acoustic surroundings. The first mode Standard renders the music unprocessed, like in any conventional headphone. This is useful in particular, if you use external processors such as Dolby headphone or DTS headphone X. The second mode Studio brings the sound stage to the front of the head, without adding any room effect, by means of a novel crosstalk circuit derived from a patented, simplified model of head-related transfer functions. The third mode Surround adds simulated reflections around the head, designed so that you perceive the sound stage at a greater distance, without disturbing artifacts such as coloration or reverb. The mode is changed by simply pressing and immediately releasing the button. (This is the same button used to trigger auto calibration). Music being played is temporarily interrupted; the mode is changed immediately, and a brief “brushing” sound is played to illustrate the acoustic effect of the new mode. The music then immediately resumes playing using the new mode. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

The L and R that indicate the two channels are located on the soft grommets that protects the signal cable where it enters the headphone shell. The letters are recessed into the grommets, and are very small. If they are too difficult to read, it may be easier to simply observe how the headphones are situated in the ears. The oval body of each in-ear, with the chrome stripe, should be away from the head, and be situated in the ear lobe, not stick out directly from the head. Was this helpful? Yes, but only with music via cable, and noise reduction will not be active. As soon as you insert the charging cable micro-usb plug, the Bluetooth and NC functionalities will be switched off, and they cannot be reactivated unless you remove the charging cable, and there must of course be a charge in the battery. If you listen to cabled music while charging, be prepared to hear noise under certain conditions. Yes, the smooth leather headband from the K601 can be fitted onto the K701, but since it is probably no longer available as a spare part, the only option is to butcher an old 601 to do it. The work involved is very intricate and complicated, and paying a technician to do it is not an economical solution. Owner must be capable of completely dismantling the headphones, including soldering, and to reassemble them. And Harman cannot offer any assistance in doing this. As of late 2017, a new version of K701 is being marketed by AKG Professional. This version features a smooth headband instead of the version with bumps, so the issue no longer applies. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

You can't use standard rechargeable batteries with the K912. If you still have the original batteries, and compare them to the generic batteries you are trying to use, you will see the difference on the - ( minus ) side of the battery. On the original battery that comes with the headphones, there is a bare metal band on that side, which connects to a sensor in the headphones ( you can also see this sensor inside the battery compartment, on the - side ). A generic rechargeable battery does not have this metal band for the sensor, so the charger won't charge them. This is for protection, in case you have non-rechargeable batteries in the headphones and put them on the charger. This could cause damage to the headphones. Was this helpful? Three things to know about Bluetooth (BT)…
1. Pairing: Pairing is like creating a new contact in your phone’s Contacts list. You have to do a little bit of work to create the contact, but once you do, connecting with that person in the future is fast and easy.
Let’s put this in terms of phones and speakers (or headphones). Your phone needs to become acquainted with your speaker. This is called pairing.
NOTE: Throughout this article, we will talk about your phone. However, it applies the same to tablets, laptops, computers and any other Bluetooth (BT) source device. To get this started, you have to put the speaker into pairing mode. You may have to press a few buttons to make this happen. All speakers work a little differently, but generally speaking, follow these steps…- For most speakers, quickly press and release the speaker’s BT button. However, with some speakers you may have to press and hold the BT button for a few seconds. Most speakers make a noise or have a blinking LED to let you know they are in pairing mode.
If this does not get you into pairing mode, check your owner’s manual or look for an article pertaining to your specific speaker. - Go into BT settings on your phone. Search or scan for available devices.
- A list of available or discoverable devices will appear on your phone. Select your speaker.
- Two things have just occurred:
- Your phone and speaker are now paired.
- Your phone and speaker are now connected so that you can listen to music.
NOTE: Just as you can have many people in your phone’s Contacts list, you can have many speakers and headphones in your phone’s paired devices list.2. Connecting: Once you have paired, your phone remembers your speaker, and your speaker remembers your phone. However, the two must connect to play music through the speaker.Automatic Re-connection: Let’s say your speaker is at home in the living room, and you leave for the day. When you come home and are within range of the speaker, your phone will automatically re-connect to it (assuming it is turned on). You can press play on your phone, and the music will play though your speaker. Of course, if your speaker is off, you will need to turn it on first. NOTE: Some speakers make a sound when they re-connect.
Automatic re-connection does not always happen.- Some phones may not work like this.
- Someone else may have connected to the speaker.
- Perhaps you connected to a different speaker while outside of your home.
Manual Re-connection: If your device does not automatically re-connect, you can re-connect manually…- Go into Bluetooth settings on your phone and make sure BT is on.
- Select your speaker to re-connect and play music.
Some speakers allow several phones to be connected at the same time. Others allow only one at a time. Therefore, if you are unable to re-connect, it could be that some other phone is connected to the speaker. In this case…- Go into the other phone’s BT settings and disconnect the speaker or turn off BT.
- Then follow the steps above to manually re-connect your phone to the speaker.
NOTE: Do NOT Unpair or Forget the speaker in your phone’s BT settings, as this will require you to repeat the Pairing steps above.
3. Resetting: This is a drastic step and should only be done if the unit is not operating correctly. Do NOT reset your speaker every time you want to connect. Resetting erases all pairings to all phones. You would then have to Unpair or Forget this speaker from each and every phone, and start the pairing process all over again. Check your owner’s manual or look for an article with more detailed BT instructions on your specific speaker or headphone model. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback! - For most speakers, quickly press and release the speaker’s BT button. However, with some speakers you may have to press and hold the BT button for a few seconds. Most speakers make a noise or have a blinking LED to let you know they are in pairing mode.

Many Harman Kardon, JBL and AKG products run on rechargeable batteries. In most cases, these batteries will provide years of excellent service and keep the music playing for many hours.
WARNING – the rechargeable batteries inside our products are not user-serviceable. Please do not attempt to open the product or replace the battery. Doing so will void your warranty.
Battery issues fall into three categories:
-
Your speaker or headphones run out of power after only a short time.
-
The speaker will not play at all because the battery will not hold a charge.
-
When you plug in the cable to charge your speaker, sometimes it charges and sometimes it does not- the red charging LED or other indicator might not come on.
Here are some things to try that often fix these issues.
-
It could be as simple as a bad USB charging cable. If you have other charging cables, give them a try. (Be sure that the cable has the same type of connector as the original one that came with your product.)
-
Same for the charger- if your product charges by USB, try a different USB charger. Be sure that it is rated at least 2.0a (2 amps) output.
-
Try other electrical outlets at your location to be certain it is not a local wiring issue.
-
Charge the product overnight for at least 8 hours.
-
When you plug the charging cable into the speaker or headphones, is the connector stable, or can it be wiggled around? If it can be wiggled, this could indicate that the charging port has been damaged or come loose. Sometimes wiggling the connection restores charging power.
IMPORTANT: Some products such as Xtreme, Xtreme 2, Boombox, Partybox 100 & 300, GO+Play and the Onyx Studio series do not use USB charging. Instead, they have a specialized charger. Do not attempt to charge these products with other cables or chargers.
If none of these fixes the issue, it could be that the battery has died or is losing its capacity, or that the charging connector on your speaker is damaged. Please contact us so we can assist you. Be sure to mention that you have tried the steps in this Battery & Charging FAQ so that our agents do not ask you to repeat these steps.
